A Mini Study into the Book of Psalms

Blessed! It’s almost become a catchphrase, particularly in Christian circles. “How are you all doing?” “Oh, we’re blessed!” I mean, who wouldn’t want to be blessed? I think we would all love to know some ways to be blessed by God. If we are not careful though, we can lose sight of what that word really means. It doesn’t mean overflowing with wealth or having the best of everything in life. The word really has a connotation of happiness, and we could all use that in our lives! How do we get there though? There is so much pain in the world!
Is it really possible to live a truly blessed and happy life no matter our circumstances? To be content and happy even when life isn’t going our way? What are some ways to be blessed? I intend to show you that this is totally achievable and completely possible! Let’s dive into the authority on all things– God’s Word for some answers!
The First of the Ways To Be Blessed Is:
To Be Forgiven
The most important way to be blessed by God is to be saved from our sins. Have you trusted in Jesus as your personal Savior? This is key to your happiness and your eternity. In fact, in Psalms 32, it says “Blessed is he whose transgression is forgiven, Whose sin is covered.” I cannot express to you the peace and joy that comes from a clear conscience–from being forgiven of my sins and living every day in God’s smile. When we confess and trust Jesus to forgive us (1 John 1:9), we can rest in His faithfulness to forgive us, and that is BLESSING, sweet friend!
The Second of the Ways to Be Blessed Is:
To Trust in God
One of the ways to be blessed is to truly put our trust in God. This is not dependent on our circumstances or anything external. This is totally dependent on the character of Almighty God! I don’t know about you, but that is good news to me! I know that the LORD doesn’t change, despite the fact that life is ever-changing. Things may not be going well, but we know He is faithful and His promises remain true even when we cannot see it in that moment. Psalm 2:12b tells us that all those who put their trust in the LORD are blessed!
Trusting in the LORD involves faith and trust in His Word and His promises. When we really get into God’s Word and simply trust in it, we find peace and blessing. For example, He has promised to meet all our needs (Philippians 4:19) and that knowledge and trust brings so much joy and happiness! Another promise that we can trust in is that Jesus will never leave us alone or forget about us. (Hebrews 13:5b) He will never leave us! Have you every felt so alone in the world and like no one could understand you? You need not feel that way because, trusting in this promise, you will find happiness and blessing!

The Third of the Ways to Be Blessed Is:
To Surround Yourself With Godly Friends
Friends are one of the greatest blessings in life. We weren’t meant to do life alone! As a mom, we need each other so much! Whether it is someone you have never met in person, but they have encouraged you online or a close personal friend that you see often. We become most like those we closely associate with. If you want to live a blessed life, another way to do that is to surround yourself with friends that are passionate about serving the LORD.
Psalm 1 discusses how those are blessed who don’t follow the advice of the wicked, or stand around with sinners, or join in with those that mock. Where do you go when you need advice on life? Who do you spend your time with? Having some friends who will lift you up to Jesus and who will give you godly counsel from God’s Word will help you so much to live a blessed life. I hope that I can be one of those friends to you in this space, but I encourage you to reach out in your local church and community and make some in-person connections with strong believers. You will be blessed!
The Fourth of the Ways to Be Blessed is:
To Help Those In Need
Yet another way to be blessed is looking outside of yourself and searching for ways to help others that may be struggling. This may be a financial need that you are in the position to meet. Maybe a neighbor is in desperate need of food or the basic necessities of life. There is something about not being so focused on ourselves that really brings joy! Let’s open our eyes to those around us! You would be so shocked at how you will be blessed by God for your unselfish sacrifice!
This blessing also comes along with another promise we can trust in. Psalm 41:1 tells us that when we consider those in need, not only are we blessed, but that the LORD will then help us in return when we are the ones in trouble. A double blessing for sure! We could never outgive God. It truly is more blessed to give than to receive!
The Fifth of the Ways to Be Blessed Is:
To Obey and Seek the LORD With All Your Heart
There is something in the human heart that truly just wants its own way. It doesn’t want to submit or be told what to do. The reality of allowing the flesh to rule and choosing our own path and our own way only ends in discouragement, despair, and eventually, destruction. The results of not living in obedience to God and His Word are the exact opposite of blessed!
The final way that we will discuss today to be blessed by God is to walk in complete obedience to Him- to truly seek Him with all our hearts. Psalm 119:2 tells us that we will be blessed when we obey God’s law and consistently seek Him with all our hearts! That is, to seek Him above and before all other things! Jesus spoke about this in Matthew 6:33 when He instructed us to seek first His kingdom and all these other things would be added unto us. So, you want to be blessed? Put God first in EVERY area of your life, and be amazed at the blessings you will experience!

Closing Thoughts on 5 Ways to Be Blessed
I hope by this time, dear friend, that you are coming to a realization that you too can live a blessed life! Not in the sense of those who preach a “prosperity” gospel, but in the truest sense of the word! Happy and living in the favor of God no matter what swirls around us in this uncertain world! In fact, God’s word speaks so much about blessing that I would daresay we are living way below our potential as children of God if we are not searching out ways to live daily more fully in the blessing of God! His Word is our roadmap, showing us the ways to be blessed!

I absolutely love this post! I’m so grateful for how you begin with the truth that to be blessed by God, we must first accept Him as our Lord and Savior. That is such a vital message, and you’re beautifully setting the tone for what it means to be truly blessed. It’s not about earthly riches or a prosperity gospel, but about having a genuine, deep relationship with our Heavenly Father. As you reminder us what Jesus says in in Matthew 6:33, “But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.” This was a joy to read—a wonderful post filled with truth and giving all glory to God!
